Can I use Impact IDE with my existing database?

You can use Impact IDE with an existing database but the database must be Initialized first. Database objects that already exist in your database will not be available to Impact IDE until you define them within Impact IDE.

Can I use Microsoft Access database?

No. Download MSDE (Microsoft Desktop Engine SQL2000) from our downloads page if you do not have access to Microsoft SQL Server 2000.

What is MSDE?

MSDE is the desktop version of the Microsoft Database Engine compatible with SQL Server 2000. MSDE is distributed by Relation Arts with Impact IDE for those customers who do not have access to SQL Server 2000. Relational Arts can not distribute MSDE with the Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise tools or Microsoft Query tools. Impact IDE provides some of the same functionality including the ability to create databases, tables and views, manage security, and query or update your database with SQL.

What is Impact GEN?

Impact GEN is a set of objects that use meta-data to produce web application pages. Impact IDE includes the interface for creating the meta-data.

Can I change the layout of the application?

You control the content of the pages including which fields are used, prompt data in select lists, validation, and data type using Impact IDE. Impact GEN uses the definition to generate the pages in a common format. Future releases of Impact GEN may provide "skinning" functions allowing you to control look and feel.

Is Impact GEN included in Impact IDE?

The Application Design Definitions are included in Impact IDE. These Definitions allow you to configure your application to fit your needs. Impact GEN is sold seperately.

Does the web application have a mechanism for managing user security?

Impact IDE can help you manage security for Impact Gen applications. You must have authority in the database to manage security. Ask your DBA about security administration authority.

How are reports configured and created?

Reports are configured using Impact IDE detail page definitions. See Help for more information.

I Receive and "Undefined error" while initializing a database.

This error occurrs when the Event Log is full. Impact IDE writes initialization activities to the Event Application log to provide you with a listing of the operations. Open the Windows Event Viewer and clear the application log, then try the operation again.

I am having trouble running Impact GEN in IIS 6.0.

Microsoft has implimented new security for IIS 6.0, COM, COM+ and DCOM. The easy way to reconcile this issue is to set IIS 6.0 to emulate IIS 5.0 with respect to DCOM objects.

1. Right click My Computer and select Manage from the contect menu to open the Computer Management tool.


2. Navigate to Services and Applications / Internet Information Services.


3. Right click the Web Sites node and select Properties from the contect menu.


4. Click the Services tab.


5. Check Run WWW Service in IIS 5.0 isolation mode.


6. Restart IIS.
